A veteran journalist, Prof. Dr. Kiran Thakur has worked in United News of India, The Indian Post, Sakal, The Observer of Business & Politics.
Dr. Thakur was the President of Pune Union of Working Journalists.
He was the former Head of the Department of Communication and Journalism of University of Pune. He took charge as the 'Head' in August 2001 and retired on 30 March 2007.
He is an alumnus of the docj and carried out a research about Internet Journalism in India for his Ph.D thesis. Dr. Thakur is the author of several publications related to journalism and communication studies. In 2007 he along with Dr Ujjwala Barve published the findings of a UGC sponsored research on 'Changing Profile of Readership of Indian Newspapers on Internet'.
The MA (MCJ) BATCH2007 had the opportunity of studying News Reporting, Current Affairs, Online Journalism and Investigative Journalism under Dr. Thakur.
